Welcome to Guinea blog
Welcome to the new blog of the Syli Nationale. Guinea is not one of the most well known national sides on the African continent and they are certainly an underrated side. Part of this can be explained by the very modest credentials of the national team, having never qualified for a World Cup or won an African Cup of Nations. They also suffer from a lack of world renowned players; however the vast majority of the regulars in the national ply their trade on the European continent.
Despite this Guinea is a side that can threaten any of Africa’s juggernauts, particularly in the friendly confines of Conakry. They have shown their quality in making the quarterfinals of the Nations Cup, three editions running. They have also reached a peak ranking of 26 in Fifa’s world rankings and are currently ranked at 39 in the world. With qualifying for the World Cup underway, the Syli Nationale will attempt to finally breakthrough on the world stage and partake in the World Cup in South Africa in two years time. Over the next couple of days I will recap Guinea’s progress so far in the qualifying campaign as well as introduce some of the key members of the squad.
In closing, welcome to the Guinea blog and I look forward to detailing Guinea’s quest for reaching the promised land of the World Cup finals. I hope everyone will enjoy the ride and I look forward to your comments.

Welcome Shane, happy to have Guinea finally represented. They’ve got quality and have always been a team you want to avoid if you can at the African Cup. Looking forward to reading about them.
